Post 32: karbonjournal.org for “Off the Wall 3”

For Off the Wall 3—an annual zine + poster exhibition, held by the 2D Dept. in Forum Gallery, May 4-11 2012, I dug down my archive for karbonjournal.org, where I worked as its photo editor since I left Indonesia for the US until the time it went defunct last June.

Stealing the technique from Kenneth Goldsmith's ‘Uncreative Writing’, I opened each of the journal's weekly photos, dated July 2011 - May 2012, using a word processing software, put its respective English caption in the middle of the strings of text that made up each photos, and re-saved it to JPG format.

The resulting images of this process were, of course, altered—or to be more precise, corrupted. Some consider these images as glitch.

These images were then printed using Polaroid PoGo instant printer, altering these images more by its embedded technical constraints, to then simply be clipped together.

You can see some of the altered images below (+ even more in the image section of this post).
