Juliana Sharkey (Manufacturers Representative at 3Form) spoke to FIU Interior Architecture students in the course Materials for Interiors. Materials for Interiors, taught by Adjunct Faculty Lisette Boosooboy, is a blended learning lecture course that introduces students to the analysis and research of critical issues affecting selection and application of interior finish materials.
In addition to discussing the use of materials like acrylic, resin, poly carbonate, and glass in design, Sharkey spoke to the students about LEED v4, which is “the newest version of the world’s premier benchmark for high-performance green buildings.” LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices. “Students are the creators and caretakers of the future,” said Sharkey. “It is essential to help them engage the right tools.”
Sharkey was born and raised in Florida, and she has been involved in the South Florida architecture and design community working as a manufacturers representative for 20 years. She has been an active member of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and has been its Fort Lauderdale city center director. She has worked at 3form for 3 years.
