On Sunday, September 13th, Residential Properties will open at The Fountainhead Residency. The exhibition delves into the question of how the scale of a home adjusts in relation to new, “fluid” elements within real estate speculation, virtual environments, and technology.
Involved in Residential Properties is a list of FIU College of Architecture + The Arts alumni and faculty, among them AdrienneRose Gionta (MFA ’14), Marcos Valella (BFA ’03), Samantha Salzinger (BFA ’95), Andrea Perelli (M.Arch ’13), Noel Palacios (M.Arch ’13), and Nick Gelpi (Design Principal, Gelpi Projects; FIU Assistant Professor of Architecture).Residential Properties is made possible with support by several individuals and organizations, including artist and alumnus Andrew C. Horton (FIU BFA ’06; MFA ’14).
Residential Properties explores how real estate speculation, virtual environments, and developments in technology and fabrication now require a reconsideration of what “dwelling” is. How does the scale of a home adjust in relation to these new, “fluid” elements and forces? Residential Properties explores recent shifts in living spaces through site-specific interventions within an existing house/artist residency in a Miami neighborhood – The Fountainhead Residency. Contributors to this exhibition come from a range of disciplinary backgrounds, including visual arts, industrial design, architecture, filmmaking, web design, and writing.
Residential Properties will generate a positive entanglement between creative disciplines, between The Fountainhead Residency and its surrounding neighborhoods, and between local and global definitions of “dwelling.” The exhibition will widen and deepen critical conversations within the local community about what is possible within the borders of our homes, and will invite viewers to reconsider the nature of these borders.

Lauderdale); visual artist Angela Valella (Miami); and visual artist Marcos Valella, (Miami).
Residential Properties is curated by artist Felice Grodin with support from The Fountainhead Residency founders Kathryn and Dan Mikesell, artists Carter Johnson and Andrew C. Horton, Dimensions Variable, William Lane Architect, Robert Soldo Design, Jorge Fiterre and Giselle Coujil, RM Interior Architecture and Bon Vivant Fine Custom Woodworking.
Residential Properties opens at The Fountainhead Residency: 690 NE 56th St, Miami, FL 33137 on Sunday, September 13th, 2015 at 3PM. The exhibition runs through October 16th, 2015. The opening event is free and open to the public.
Subsequent public events including round table discussions, neighborhood meetings, and film screenings will be announced via social media. Tabloid, a free published text, will accompany the exhibition. In addition, access to the exhibition will be provided by appointment.

The School of Architecture is composed of three closely aligned departments: Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Landscape Architecture.
