The footprint of FIU Landscape Architecture + Environmental and Urban Design (LAEUD) alumni continues to increase in the nationally renowned and recognized landscape architecture firm Raymond Jungles, Inc. (RJI).

Among the past LAEUD students working at RJI are project coordinator Luis Jimenez (FIU MLA ’11), design staff member Bruno Sanabria (FIU BLA ’08), Chris Cabezas (FIU MLA ’13), Jasbir Singh (FIU MLA ’13), and Philip Byrnes (FIU MLA ’14).

Chris Cabezas described his favorite part of working at the firm. “My role allows me to work with world-class designers on a variety of exciting projects, all at different sizes and stages of completion, from the schematic design through the construction administration phase. Furthermore, my FIU education has offered me unparalleled experience and exposure to design in tropical and sub-tropical environments that I now deal with on a daily basis,” he said. He also emphasized the importance of studying at LAEUD by describing the city’s current transformation, “[t]he city of Miami is going through a renaissance period right now, and studying Landscape Architecture at FIU, which is situated right in the middle of all this change, is a very exciting thing.”

Since 1982, Raymond Jungles, Inc., under the leadership of Raymond Jungles, has developed a dynamic practice inspired by the ethic of stewardship of the land. The firm’s work is innovative yet timeless, proposing design solutions that respond to surrounding natural systems while restoring nature’s balance and harmony on a micro-scale. RJI’s completed gardens personify timelessness and beauty, with verdant spaces that entice participation and soothe the psyche. Major projects include the design and transformation of the 1100 block of Miami Beach’s iconic Lincoln Road Mall into an Everglades-inspired “urban glade,” the design of the bold and botanically-rich Brazilian Garden in Naples, Florida, the lush grounds of the historic Golden Rock Inn on the island of Nevis, the rooftop garden of Frank Gehry’s New World Symphony, the beachfront gardens of the Soho Beach House, and the gardens of the Faena District Miami Beach, a new enclave that promises to be an iconic, international and cultural nexus. The work of Raymond Jungles has won several awards from the National and Florida Chapters of the American Society of Landscape Architects. RJI’s projects have been featured in many books,  and Raymond Jungles has published two monographs, Ten Landscapes and The Colors of Nature: Subtropical Gardens by Raymond Jungles, with a third monograph scheduled for publication by the Monacelli Press in fall 2015. Work by Mr. Jungles has been featured in publications such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The New York Post, Vanity Fair, Architectural Digest, Ocean Drive, House Beautiful, Coastal Living and Garden Design.
