FIU College of Architecture + The Arts Associate Dean of Students and Department of Architecture Associate Professor David Rifkind was elected to the Board of Directors of the Society of Architectural Historians at the society’s annual meeting in Pasadena on April 6th.

Professor Rifkind has a long history of service to the SAH, including co-authoring the Florida entries for SAH Archipedia with John Stuart (Associate Dean for Cultural and Community Engagement, Director of Miami Beach Urban Studios, and FIU Architecture Professor). In 2012, Rifkind won the society’s Founders’ Award for best article by an emerging scholar in the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians during the previous two years.

As a board member, Professor Rifkind will help shape policy as the SAH embarks on an ambitious project of reaching an increasingly international audience and extending the scope of digital scholarship on the built environment. Rifkind was also asked to join the newly-formed International Architects’ Council, an initiative that will bring leading architects and historians together to explore the intertwined trajectories of architectural practice and history.

The SAH was founded at Harvard University in 1940 and has a distinguished history of providing services for teaching and design professionals and institutions that educate the public about the history of the built environment.
