    FACULTY SPOTLIGHT: HENRY RUEDA, VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

    The department of architecture is very pleased to announce that Henry Rueda is joining us as a Design and Building Technology Visiting Assistant Professor for the academic year of Fall 2015-Spring 2016.

    Professor Rueda has taught at Escuela de Arquitectura y Diseno at Universidad Jose Maria Vargas, Escuela de Arquitectura y Urbanismo at Universidad Central de Venezuela, and in the Departamento de Arquitectura (Department of Architecture), Diseno y Artes Plasticas at Universidad Simon Bolivar, Venezuela. His professional experience includes working for Jesus Tenreiro in Caracas, Venezuela and Wiel Arets in Maastricht, Holland.

    Professor Rueda’s current work focuses on single family residences in different cities in Venezuela and in Miami-Dade County. In 2014, his VL House was nominated for the Emerging Architects Mies Crown Hall Prize of the Americas, organized by the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. His O House was recognized with the first prize in the 2013 IV Bienal de Arquitectura de Maracaibo, Venezuela, and in 2007, his SM House was awarded with the first prize in the 1st. SAI, Salon de Arquitectura in Caracas, Venezuela.

    In Venezuela, Professor Rueda keeps his practice and is a co-founder and active member of Fundacion Espacio, a non-profit organization that started in 2007 and that curates and produces books, exhibitions, seminars and conferences with local and international architects. Fundacion Espacio focuses on important topics in the city and on the importance of critical discourse in Architecture. Also, Professor Rueda co-founded and directed Espacio 5, anArt Gallery Space opened in 2012 that focuses on experimental local art.

    Professor Rueda holds a Diploma of Architecture from the Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanismo at Universidad Central de Venezuela and a Master of Sciences in Advanced Architectural Design from the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University.

About this Blog

The School of Architecture is composed of three closely aligned departments: Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Landscape Architecture. Jointly headed by the three department chairs, the School of Architecture provides a rich and diverse platform for interdisciplinary activities at the curricular and research levels.
