Mariateresa Campolongo – a PhD candidate in Architecture and Design within the Design Navale e Nautico curriculum at the University of Genoa – is sharing her expertise with FIU Interior Architecture students in the Cruise Ship and Super Yacht Certificate program.
Campolongo was born in Turin, Italy. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Design Navale e Nautico in July 2013 with honors, at Polo della Spezia (University of Genoa – the Polytechnic of Milan) with a thesis entitled “Giada do Brasil: Super-Yacht’s concept for the Brazilian market” (under Professor S. Piardi).
Her passion for the nautical field deepened during her Bachelor’s Degree at the Polytechnic of Turin, Faculty of Architecture, first with the thesis “Motor-yacht, where is Design?” (under Professor C. Comuzio), for which she had the opportunity to interview the architect Paolo Caliari. Her passion for the nautical field increased even more afterwards in the postgraduate course “Universal Design: inclusive and multisensory Design” with a dissertation research work entitled “Accessible Boats”.
In 2009, Campolongo attended the International Advanced Course “Naval Architecture and Maritime Engineering” at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Arts et Métiers, Aix en Provence (France), and in 2012, she participated in the international workshop “Cruise Ship & Super Yacht Design” at Florida International University.
She gained professional experience by working in the nautical industry in both design firms and shipyards, which include Quartostile design firm in Turin (2008), Rossinavi shipyards in Viareggio (2012) and De Jorio Design International in Genoa (2015).
Campolongo is currently pursuing a PhD in Architecture and Design within the Design Navale e Nautico curriculum where she is developing her thesis on “Interior Yacht Design: History through relations with the domestic environment” (under Professor M. I. Zignego).
She has been a Teaching Assistant on several courses in Nautical Engineering (Polo della Spezia) and Academic Tutor in 3D modeling and renderings (University of Genoa) since 2013.
