FIU Interior Architecture students had the opportunity to attend a workshop sponsored by lighting design giants Apure, Kreon, and Uli+Friends. The workshops were conducted for students in the class Luxury Residential Interior Architecture and Design, taught by Adjunct Faculty Liliana Korn Custy (Korn Interior Design award-winning principal and the co‐chair of the Builders Association of South Florida Luxury Council).
The students in the class visited Apure’s Miami offices where owner of both Apure and Uli+Friends, Mr. Uli Petzold, taught students about Apure Architectural System by Porsche Design Studio. Students then were invited to visit the Kreon Showroom, where Kreon creative director and experienced interior architect Mr. Oliver Koch welcomed them and demonstrated the work of the company. He discussed with students how they can use interior architecture lighting to enhance their own projects. Mr. Koch even put time aside to review the students’ ASIA Triplex Penthouse Projects, mentoring and sharing ideas, tools, and advice on rethinking and refining their projects.
Custy said, “Apure, Kreon, and Uli+Friends are in the lead of Interior Architectural lighting across the globe, and they are designing the most extraordinary architectural lighting projects today in Miami. Some of these companies’ projects include Zaha Hadid’s “One Thousand Museum” project and “Regalia Tower” in Sunny Isles Beach. Apure Design, Kreon, and Uli+Friends have produced masterly, correct, and magnificent lighting for architecture, landscapes and interior design.” She further explained how the companies’ projects include, but are not limited to, illumination planning and system integration, harvesting daylight, saving energy, and minimizing maintenance.”
Mr. Koch found the interaction with FIU Interior Architecture students engaging, noting that “it was truly a wonderful and productive afternoon, and I absolutely enjoyed having you and your students here at the showroom. After all [of] these years working in the design environment it felt good to go back to the essence of Interior Architecture, and I have to say you have very ambitious and motivated students and, considering the scale and level of difficulty of the ASIA Penthouse project, they will grow and succeed!”
Custy and her students in Luxury Residential Interior Architecture and Design are grateful for the privilege of experiencing a workshop with these leading design companies. “I would like to thank our hosts at Apure, Kreon, and Uli+Friends,” said Custy, “for this once-in-a-lifetime workshop opportunity that was offered to my students.”
