thats it. watch the real mass production of housing take a place coming years. auto production tech. coupled with housing prod. a match made in heaven. i always thought the real mass production of housing was going to come from auto industry. it makes all the sense. i hope they ship it in shipping containers...
pathetic design once again when it comes to buildings vs. cars -- and this is toyota, makers of the cool-ass new landcruiser, or prius for that matter (I know the camry is the best selling car, yeah yeah...)
looks crap, but this kind of factory built housing has been standard for about 20 years now...pre-fab is OLD NEWS in Japan...
sad thing is that toyota is pretty much just copying the other manufacturers, like sekisui house, and misawa homes, both of which do have modernist lines that are sort of ok if you squint just right.
but anyway, the new wave here is fixing up old houses rather than building new ones.
there is also a hint of environmental technology and earthquake preparation used in new housing pitches. check this english description of misawa's approach; whether you believe their sincerity or not i am pretty sure that japan has gotta be one of the few countries in the world where the house builders are selling fuel cell co generation technology as a standard option...;-)

The containers the houses come in... can then get included as attics in the house. Self-inclusive topology.
