Sandia National Laboratories has developed software that is supposed to help agency decision-makers deal with the problem of border entrypoints. The experimental software, dubbed "Borders Grand Challenge," simulates the movement of goods, vehicles and people through different ports of entry, including airports and seaports. It is a $6m simulation software system that predicts potential threats as they are monitored by any number of surveillance tactics, and then calculates a variable set of resource allocations for responding to these potential threats based on the response set-up and its position at the time.
