Arthur Erickson has been called Canada's most famous architect and the first to put Canadian architecture on the world map. But he is no longer allowed to call himself an architect, according to his home province's regulatory body. Or at least not when it comes to buildings currently going up around Vancouver with his name attached to them. Globe and Mail

stupid...stupid...stupid...
mdler, stupid for whom?
the regulating body? or that he resigned from the regulating body over continuing credits.
the "honourable way through this" is to say, gee... he's been a practicing architect for about 50 years. maybe we should exempt him from the ridiculous continuing credit clause.
effing clowns.
holz... I disagree. The "honourable" thing would be for mr. erickson to many up and do less than a day's worth of continuing education like every other damn architect has to. At what point do we annoint an architect beyond the requirements of everyone else? Is his ego too large to accept that perhaps he still has something to learn after all these years?
that's man up... not 'many' up
hey, when you bill out @ $300/hr...
FREE ARTHUR ERICKSON !!!
There's something to be said for knowing about new developments in the technologies available to him. I know most of the credits are shit, but ideally he should keep learning about his craft. Imagine a doctor still using methods and tools he used in the 60s? Or maybe a lawyer?
I agree completely with holz.
I believe there are architects of a certain success level and age (years of practice) who should be exempt from continuing education.
I'm a real stickler for not calling yourself an architect if you're not registered yet - but this is ridiculous. The guy is 84 and a national treasure.
there's another potential solution. i doubt erickson is stamping drawings these days so they could convey emeritus status on him and allow him to forego any future continuing ed. someone else in his organization would have to be the 'executive' architect, i.e. the stamp. sounds a little less desirable, but maybe....
