That's a Perkins + Will / Ralph Johnson project. They were working on it a couple of years ago when I was working there. It's got a lot of green on it...makes it green right?
given the number of people in Mumbai (400,000+ in the squatter settlements alone) I doubt this home'scraper is going to do anything than create new frictions between the haves and have-nots.
After talking to some co-workers in the office about this, and found out that around 6 months ago, Mr. Ambani had approached our firm to design the interior of this monster. The big boss turned it down though, for some reason.
Do the 600 servants get to live there? From the article, I can't tell - but if you throw in their spouses and 2.3 kids (okay, that's the U.S. standards, but I'm working quick here people) that's just shy of 2000 people, or 33 people per floor - not so uberavagent now, eh?
ummm...at least it's better than some ridiculous mansions built out there in the US....i mean this is at least an efficient use of groundspace. i'm not a big proponent of this type of wastefulness, but i've seen much worse.
can anyone name another notable project in mumbai? no.....
would such a large construction provide some jobs? yes....and then 600 staff.
is it as much of an MVRDV 'rip-off' than MVRDV has 'ripped off' OMA and others?
and i agree with future boy; how many billionaires in the West would build a tower instead of an estate? Trump is about the only dude that comes to mind.

you know, i thought it looked kind of familiar!
and 600 staff for a family of 6!?
@ least it'll stimulate the local economy some! =P

I can confirm that this is a Perkins + Will project. Btw - P+W's "brand statement" is "Ideas and Buildings that honor the broader goals of society."

probably because he has some class!
Thanks ChopChop for sharing that mission statement.
Uotside of the vomit-inducing social and environemtal concerns, I actually like the massing of the building. Which means I hate the "design".
yeah, called it out as bad mvrdv/ds+r rip-off as well.
once mumbai's underwater, there will be plenty of room on the remaining 58 floors for at least a few thousand refugees.
Well, that's probably the most wasteful thing I have seen in quite sometime. Thank you, Mr. Rich Man.
we could dub it the MvRDv upchuck...I must admit though that i am strangely attracted to it

more importantly, why does this rendering look like it was pulled out of some 1960s house plan rag?
the design is not mature yet. i think
