A quote-unquote "West Coast Woman" wanted to build a "feminine" house "with curves," so her architect said, "Buy a junked 747 and cut it apart. Turn the wings into a roof, the nose into a meditation temple. Use the remaining scrap to build six more buildings, including a barn for rare animals." Images: Wall Street Journal.

"'When I showed it to her in the office, she just started screaming,' recalls the architect."

Ms. Rehwald says she has given Mr. Hertz a $1.5 million budget. She promptly adds: "I'll be real fortunate if it's less than $2 million."
holly cockpit!
meditate on that..
if you know that hertz is:
1) a sciarc grad,
2) had chemosphere-architect lautner as a mentor, and
3) was at gehry's office in the 80s, when gehry was collaborating with oldenburg a lot,
...then the pieces start to fit.
there's a kind of crazy brilliance to what hertz has done with this design. if you look beyond the meditation space and at the renderings of the main house, it's a very smart and sophisticated solution to a whack concept.
david and i were my classmates, and i support his activities.
however this project is a bit fettishistic on the clients efforts, @ 2M.
