Police Dept concerns for WTC, a past-week hot blog topic oddly buried in recent editorial pages (here , here & here), finally trickle to the front page of the Times, now reporting that changes could mean a one year delay in construction start. The article suggests a possible relocation, which begs the question why the police did not catch that part sooner and "to look different from the current model familiar to the public."
UPDATE: Nicolai Ouroussoff comments:: At Ground Zero, Disarray Reigns, and an Opportunity Awaits

"Some have already begun to reimagine: Daniel Libeskind, the master planner for the site, has drawn up new sketches on his own to show that the tower could be moved between 40 and 140 feet from West Street/Route 9A in order to solve police concerns.
"Mr. Libeskind played down the significance of the redesign, which will be done by Mr. Childs."
This reminds me of times in studio when everyone wanted to be with a certain particular professor, but there wasn't enough room. There would always be some stubborn student who would soldier on and work for a week on a project just to be told in the end that there still was no room in the section.
It gets even more interesting with Nicolai's report:
"Mr. Libeskind has also floated the idea of simply straightening the tower's twisting form. That would allow the architect to reduce the size of the building's base, which would leave more room for a security buffer. (According to Mr. Libeskind, it could increase the tower's distance from West Street by an additional 40 feet.)" Golden. Not to mention that it might save Childs's fleece from that pesky suit.
