Jiuding Mountain Hospital

The Jiuding Mountain Hospital is actually two hospitals, a 600-bed Rehab Hospital and a 600-bed Comprehensive Hospital.  The hospitals are joined together below grade by a shared logistical link and above grade by a shared Main Entry (Outpatient).  Beyond this three story entry atrium the hospitals are separated by a "Central Park".  This park runs north-south and opens to the lush hills to the north.  The relatively flat site is sculpted lower on the north side to place Inpatient Entries at the lower level and thus allowing the purely pedestrian park to extend to the north via wide bridges without intrusion of vehicles. Landscaped bars extend from the perimeter of the site deep into the hospital creating frequent courtyards bringing natural light and views of nature deep into the facility.  Inpatient Towers have been placed directly above the Diagnostic and Treatment resources they utilize.  The rehab Hospital has been oriented to the more park-like west side of the site, whereas the Comprehensive Hospital, with its Emergency Department, has been oriented to the east and a major thoroughfare.  The building exterior is a mix of stone and glass in a series of modulated vertical slots.  Public circulation spines along each side of the Central Park and bridging elements have been made as open and transparent as possible.
