Design and planning for the consolidation of four separate hospitals into a totally integrated new campus on a 440-acre site.  The building is over 800,000 sf surrounding a 9,000 sf four-story atrium.  The atrium provides access to six mini hospitals with their own associated diagnostic/ treatment areas and inpatient beds.  The patient rooms follow a “universal” precept allowing easy conversion to different levels of acuity.  The building’s diagrammatic template has become a prototype for several subsequent replacement hospitals co-locating inpatient beds with treatment areas.
