The existence of a large expanse of land in the middle of the Jordanian capital, highly underused and forming a potential focal point, was
found to be ideal for the promotion of the new Amman Business Central District. By relocating the few public functions occupying the site, the
Jordanian government has offered, in phase 1 of the project, up to 33 hectares of prime real estate for a new smart, upscale heart to Amman,
built around a number of anchor tenants:
• A University with an American Style Education: The University will form the main anchor of the “smart urban center”, generating a lively
mixed young generation and professional class.
• A pedestrian commercial spine running east-west between the IT center
• A regional shopping center with an extensive mix of retail, anchor stores, entertainment and catering, built around the modern mall concept
• State-of-the-art high-rise office buildings fit for the new economy, and confirming Amman’s place in the services industry
• Hotels and residential quarters of an upmarket standing
• A Convention center
LACECO’s master plan has been retained by the Client as the reference document for the development of this area, and is going ahead with
the initial phases of detailed infrastructure.
With an up-to-date infrastructure serving the estimated 45,000 population, the new Downtown will enjoy extensive landscape, linked by vibrant
pedestrian networks nurturing the development of a distinctive character to the area.
