American University of Jordan

Higher education in Jordan has expanded dramatically in the last two decades, but this expansion has not always met the regional needs for
well-trained graduates with the specific skills needed to advance economic and social development. The new American University of Jordan
was therefore positioned at an academic level able to fulfill these needs, offering its student population of 8,800 a choice of five faculties in
various and complementary disciplines.
The curriculum was in fact tailored to the trends followed by students in local universities as well as those seeking higher education abroad; it
also offers training in fields adapted to the region’s strengths and requirements, such as tourism and environment.
Offering extensive academic and support facilities set in beautifully landscaped sites, the University is divided into two campuses, a main one
in the capital city of Amman, and a site located along Aqaba’s beach front. The Amman campus forms one of the anchor tenants of the Abdali
district’s new development and is expected to be a main client of it’s commercial and residential districts, while Aqaba’s seaside location, tourist
character and new industrial zones offer a synergy with the academic formation offered by the University, with courses there reflecting this
unique environment and promoting such diverse fields as marine biology, tourism management or deserts studies.
