it is in pest, the little green blob above the lower most bridge on this map. a sad, sad example of traditional urban planning and development gone bad. the area was the last undeveloped land along the danube in budapest. the site, which i think was about 10 hectares, has been developed with residential, commercial and this cultural monstrosity. poor pedestrian circulation and poor access to transport. in my oprinion, poor allocation of open space as well. it's really sad that such a huge opportunity was blown.
fyi, i read somewhere that the burning ruins are a memorial to the old national theater.
You are the expert on wood but I would guess the wood will age and become grey/silver with time. Then the color correlation between the material colors should be better.
more pics mleitner? this reminds me of a project i saw in Detail recently...is it in switzerland?
and yeah, ya gotta return to 'tend' to posts, techno! you can't just jump in here, throw an entry up and go away, especially when you didn't win posting rights in the first place! c'mon man! :-)
Name that Architect and Building!!!
it is a fairly recent project and is part of a large urban development project.
another exterior shot
this is in front of the building,
another interior shot
another interior shot
I don't know, but I have issues with the composition of the exterior.
all i need is some c4... that's all i need to eradicate that nastiness...
yeah i like to call it a post-modern nightmare. it's in a european capitol and the architects do not have a website.
h&dem?!?!?
NO
I dunno - there have been some horrific inclusions to this thread now. Someone hold me, I'm afraid
i don't know about you guys, but i definitely think about ziggurats turned into art galleries when i think of good architecture
and of fields of statues surrounding this wonderful architecture
is that 1st statue throwing a muffler?
sure, moses can be throwing a muffler. it makes sense in the context.
and i almost forgot the little old lady wringing her hands is sitting poolside watching the burning roman ruins.
this building is adjacent to it, by the same architect
Is this in Berlin?
nope. guess another euro capitol.
together the two buildings have a concert hall, a theater and a museum
Warsaw?
nope
Looks like Europan Union architecture - huge and hideous.
Brussels?
no again. the country joined the EU in 2004.
Ljubljana?

damn, i thought it was, i cou;dn't find exterior shots
but is it in buda or pest?
Pest, it was the map that gave it away...
holz.box [or someone else], give us something sexy... I defer.
you're up, diabase.

yes, we all need a little visual stimulation now to make up for that one. sorry it was so painful!
til diabase gets his (or her) act togevuh.
nice on holz, Big House Little House, west London - by Pierre d' Avoine Architects.
lovely stuff.
did p2an get it right? If not I can go with one
that didn't take near as long as i thought it would... damn.
holz taking a guess?
Holz, very interesting combination of wood and brick on your post. Unusual but I like it.
yeah, i dunno how i feel about it. tectonically correct, i guess but it's kinda wierd... but the holz box looks good!
You are the expert on wood but I would guess the wood will age and become grey/silver with time. Then the color correlation between the material colors should be better.
haha. i'm hardly an expert. i love how cedar turns a very beautiful silvery grey as it ages...
the holz box kinda reminds me of haus lehmenweg by morger + degelo.
ATP - no clue who did that storage box.
sorry, i'm only here to swoon at holz's recent post. that little building is just so well done.
i like the way the brick and wood are articulated almost like wallpaper.
yes, the taughtness of the facade is nice.
buuuummmmppp
a hint techno? is it aussie by chance?
Just to get this started again (people are not tending to their posts!):
Holz.box will probably know this one immediately - so maybe you could hold off for an hour or so to give others a chance.
yeah, i'll keep my mouth shut

arrrgghh i've seen this so many times... after 20 different google attempts i'll sit back and hope someone else gets this.
Sorry, no interior photos.
Not Switzerland.
Holz.box, if you have the garage door detail, send it over. I can't tell what it's made of and how they placed it.
yes, swiss
wait, it's not swiss?
ah, in pfalz... nevermind
