that is niiiice...
you guys have heard of all of these architects, but not of this guy? he's not incredibly famous or anything, but he can hold his own with some of those people.
this building is a government building, by the way
it's actually quite a nice building; light reflects into the space behind the white wall off of a reflecting pool underneath the wall.
There are some other interesting light tricks and some beautiful pivoting doors.
here is a better picture
of the front of the offices. the following 3 pictures are of the documentation center and adjacent president's palace. i actually visited this building with poncedeleonel....really great building and landscape.
though he might be a little biased since he used to work for the office!
I thought it would be an easy call for anyone living in LA.
The context:
I stopped by this project last weekend on a trip to Pasadena. The architect is a prominent CNU member. I see there is a certain quality to his work, how the spaces are made as well as a certain appeal within the aesthetics.
It has been on my mind for the past few days and I was wondering whether something like this is a timely contribution to today's architecture and how it related to my own thoughts about building in Southern California.
funny i had never seen the letters cut into the panels, it's not on their page of the project. interesting detail.. sort of cheesy, but i like it. in my mind those guys really can't do any wrong.
well, this one serves more then just a viewing platform, it's a water tower as well as a navigation point due to it's location on a small island off the Danish coast, near the birthplace of the architect.
I'll be out of the office for the rest of the day/eve.. so hopefully that will be enough.. if no one has it by then someone can jump in.
nice project...but temperatures in porto alegre - brazil- do get below freezing (at night, maybe once or twice a year) which makes me quite nervous about that swimming pool...
the pictures on their webpage www.procter-rihl.com show a nice play of interior/exterior...
Name that Architect and Building!!!
nope.
if you haven't figured it out yet, the building is in lisboa. So is the office.
that was my second guess... damn
here's a great house by p&r arq
documentation centre, João Luís Carrilho da Graça
João Luís Carrilho da Graça?
damn! holz beat me by a few seconds! :-)
that is niiiice...

wait
holz got it
my bad, was posting while this was happening.
yeah, there was a lot going on there for a minute...
next up: beton.box...

i think it's safe to say that this is officially the best thread ever.
i haven't been able to guess @ many of the projects, but it's still fun seeing what everyone posts. you guys have some good taste!
Sankt Canisius in Berlin..
Büttner, Neumann and Braun also from Berlin.
I instantly knew this was Berlin.
I like that we've attracted some new faces/names to this thread...great inclusion guys.
yeah this thread is on a roll now.. good to see it got that second wind...
...even without a red dot.
ja. good job martin. it's a neat building
Change of continent:
i'm guessing South America then...perhaps argentina
look at the green street signs and perfectly manicured suburban lawns...
this is california, no?
I didn't even see the green street sign. Yeah, California!
yeah, i would guess it's in southern california, perhaps l.a. area.
Think California Spanish, but a city with more affordable areas (not Santa Barbara).
I'll post more projects by same architects after lunch.
Same architect, different project:
do you mind sharing the significance of the project? or at least a hint about it....
I thought it would be an easy call for anyone living in LA.

i don't see the appeal. but then again, i don't get the CNU either.
Let's not get hung up with this one - certainly not a spectacular post.
It is Moule & Polyzoides, Granada Court.
Holz, post a new one from your image database (that must be amazing judging from your posts).
hmm... it's not as good as i wish it was...
this one might be easier for some on the east coast...
office da- risd library
funny i had never seen the letters cut into the panels, it's not on their page of the project. interesting detail.. sort of cheesy, but i like it. in my mind those guys really can't do any wrong.
ok before i take off for the weekend... this one might be a little tricky. an interesting object in the landscape:
That picture reminds me of this:
wow, both of those are cool.
the latter one reminds me of this:
phuyaka -
i really like the hand rail in that library as well...
[bump]
beautiful church in berlin back there, great post holz...
phuyaka...any more hints on your po-mo pyramid?!
[/bump]
Well the architect is very well known for a project he did years after this. you can find him on this thread.
geez, no luck but i did come across a few beauts...
i.m.pei has a pyramid fetish...but i think it has to be glass...
holz...the second image is not bad...but i like cynicism in architecture...a stair leading nowhere...maybe it's to unload people from a bus' rooftop?

utzon's water tower in svaneke, DK
one hit wonder my a**
holz...i saw utzon's name on the one hit wonder discussion and dismissed it as well...the man won a pritzker for crying out loud!
yea but he won the pritzker with a one hit wonder, his church Braggh is good but the significance of the SOH was his achievement.
i think his houses are very impressive.
next up...
slice house by procter-rihl. british office, house is in brazil.
nice project...but temperatures in porto alegre - brazil- do get below freezing (at night, maybe once or twice a year) which makes me quite nervous about that swimming pool...
the pictures on their webpage www.procter-rihl.com show a nice play of interior/exterior...
smelly...you are up!.
yeah. yer up
"things have weight, mass, volume, size, time, form, color, position, texture, du-ration, density, smell, value, consistence, pro-fund-ity, contours, temperature, function, appearance, price, des-tiny, age, sense. things don't have peace. Arnaldo Antunes-1992"
the text on the wall of slice house - lyrics for "As Coisas", by Arnaldo Antunes;
now you know!
ok, let's see if anyone knows this buidling.....one of the most unique (putting it kindly) experiences i have ever had...
bump.
