MDA and MADGI volunteered their design expertise as part of NBC’s George to the Rescue, a community-based home renovation series dedicated to helping and improving the lives of families in need. We redesigned a house for the family of Rebecca Koltun, a 21-year-old college student, who was paralyzed from the neck down after experiencing a major neck and spinal cord injury while skiing in Vermont in 2021. MADGI and MDA worked with contractor-host, George Oliphant, who collaborates with designers, contractors, and volunteers to rebuild homes for families and communities. Their Long Island home was transformed into an accessible and safe place for Rebeca to live. The design was to give her as much independence as possible. The entire house was set up so she can get around and the family feels comfortable. Rebecca has her privacy and independence but also space where the family can all be together.
