The Yale School of Architecture is working with curator Robert Rubin, filmmaker Randy Bell, and French artisans and fabricators Atelier Baneel to construct a historic prefab building in the empty lot next to the school. The Tropical House was designed by french constructeur Jean Prouvé in the 1950s to house diplomats and business interests in the colonial Congo. Visit the house site
The house was recovered from Brazzaville and restored by Rubin and Alain Baneel, it will be moved to Los Angeles and continue to be exhibited around the world after leaving Yale. Randy Bell is filming a documentary about the house and will post regular shorts as the contruction continues. At the site, visitors will also be able to follow the construction on three live camera
streams.
