There's some very similar proposals on the competition!
The fear is rightfully justified. The Islamisation of the EU is accelerating and control needs to be enforced. Simply put good intentions will not save one's national identity. At some point the majority needs to stop the academics before it's too late and political correctness run amok sinks us all.
that kind of control also brings in the destruction of basic human rights. add to that, the criminalization of academics and intellectuals.
salute.., you're a genius!
Ummm no, it doesn't. Stop tour scare tactics, they are tired.
Maybe archinect should hold another competition for this. The last one was so awesome. I mean WOW - F...ing amazing. Great concept - Great execution. So clever.
I also think basic rights is not having other peoples religious services or views pushed onto an unwanting public majority. Wouldn't you agree? I don't want to hear call to prayers. I don't want to hear Church bells ringing. I don't want stupid religious lights shining in my city (especially purple ones). Us smart people who don't believe in resurrections, divine intervention, or 60,000 virgins need to stop bending over and taking it from all religious nut cases.
I am also sick of a God damn archinect editor posting stupid condescending posts. I have to stop reading this guys posts. "Your a genius!" How old is this guy still posting stuff like this. Please stick to the architecture related interviews - which are usually great. I'm begging you.
oh boy! i wonder if it is the ethnicity i am associated by generalization or the actual content of follow up news post which relates to the subject of an archinect competition feature, gets you people so hateful and angry?
your words speak of the latter but conveys the former, i'll be 'damned' when i know...
Wow - That's what your going to fall back on - "Ethnicity by generalization" - What does that even mean? You created a post and competition. You get responses. Then you posted a rude comment where you ironically call someone a genius.
You brought your own ethnicity into play. Not me. I was responding with an opinion about a crappy competition that trivializes an issue that you continue to explore. You can call me whatever you want but your wrong and insulting. As an editor you should think before calling people racist. You should apologize.
Sorry - You only inferred that my post was because of your ethnicity.
It wasn't meant to be that contentious. I don't think it was an interesting competition because it's challenge was kind of blatant and childish. Like I said before - We shouldn't have to bow down to any religion. The majority of people don't want to see newly constructed huge religious towers with purple lights shining out. I don't see how blocking these constructions are a violation of freedom of anything. People can practice their fantasies as much as you want. I want to build a gigantic wizards tower that towers over the Hollywood sign because I believe in magic.
apologize for what? do you want me to park your car as well? maybe that's what you really want to see me to do instead of editoring and writing interviews and articles..
yepp just let it slide Orhan is an ass as most of his inflammatory posts and stories should have clued you in by now he just like to bait and argue. This site caters to that ilk so when in Rome do as the Romans try to stick to architecture at all possible. But certainly its hard not to get sucked into the editors' political challenges.
That's funny - You called me racist and now you solidified that a 50 to 70 year old man can be an idiot too. What a joke. I hope other people read this. You should be embarrassed.
I wouldn't let you touch my car. Not because of what you look like but more your age and reflex ability would scare me.
I like the way you weirdly interview people. Yes - That's what I like reading. Not and editor that ironically calls someone a genius who disagrees with him. Not an editor who drops the race card when it is totally inappropriate. Not an editor who tries to embarrass a person who disagrees with him.
You should apologize.
Read my above comments before I was called racist and tell me what was so wrong with my point of view. There have been many worse posts. I was not interested in starting any arguments. I had a point of view so I wrote it. Isn't that what you're supposed to do. It was annoying that an editor chose to mock someone with a different point of view. Other than that my points my vary from how you view the World but there are still valid.
i love the way you guys raise to top like cream after initial insults and continuous desperation.
if you can't see an architectural, urban, cultural, regional and political angle to the minaret issue, i am sorry to say that you are 'only' looking for things you want to spit your venomous designations to people.
the irony is, that i haven't called you guys 'racists' in above posts. but the word might be echoing in your heads all the time by association..
I thought Ayyuce was Mexican
but you did not think i was an american!
You inferred it twice. If you don't see that then someone else is writing your posts. Maybe a ghost did it. You inferred I am racist and then say I am being venomous. That's really not right. My "venom" was in direct response to an older man inferring multiple time that I am racist. Is that the cream of the crop you are talking about?
I do see the angle you were taking but you make it out like the The Good, The Bad, The Evil movie. The bad guys are bad and the good guys are us. It looks like it's that simple for most of the people. If you question it you are a ironic genius. I guess I should have shut up and submitted a competition piece that challenged this.
Armenian?
Like half of me?
I thought you were a guy from LA with a Mexican last name. No deep racist or right wing conspiracy, sorry.
The problem that I have is he uses his architnect editorial title whenever you see his writing in other outlets. I think if you are going to do that and lay out political views you need to be held to a standard even with people who think a 50 man peddling his views on the internet is wierd. It looks like he does like to bait people into his political arguments which is fine unless you start calling people racist when they don't agree with your stupid competitions. That car line where I said he is too old was funny and meant as a joke inside of me getting enraged at his hints of racism.
yepp999, do you have any statistics about the "majority" of the people thinking that hearing church bells is having religion "pushed" on them? If you're talking about America, I think the majority of people still identify as belonging to a religion, even if it's more cultural or tradition-based for them rather than practice - including lots of smart people who aren't particularly bothered by seeing a creche next to a menorah next to Santa in a sleigh all on one lawn.
Noises in cities are part of life in cities. From my kitchen, I can hear the live bands playing the bars Saturday night, then a few hours later the church bells Sunday morning. Neither is a problem.
I was being a bit facetious but quite frankly how many Stem Cell scientists are religious? How many cutting edge physicists are religious? You still get architects that are religious because we are not cutting edge. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. I agree with your cultural versus religious. I can concede that but I don't think Santa is religious anymore. Maybe some people do but I doubt it's the majority. It's not necessarily the noise I'm against. I think it's time as a complete World society that we stop believing in fantasy and witchcraft. It bugs me when are archinect editor thinks religious expression is so important that he's willing to call people racist to defend it. Our society is so screwed up that a history oppressive and violent religious beliefs are now defended through cute little competitions.
This is the more Bad than Good argument.
The majority of people in the US will not be religious in the years to come. The statistics are dropping because now we have science to explain things.
i just have to tell you this yepp99;
you have been speculatively accused me of calling you a racist, harassed me about my age, and stuck your nose into matters of my professional titles etc. which is no business of yours. you continue to do so and i have the authority to delete your comments and i can have you banned if you continue to attack me in person. consider this a warning.
i am leaving your fine compliments (!) as a proof of your attidute about age, defamation, and about the archinect content.

First of all, I personally have no qualms about calling this racism: "The fear is rightfully justified. The Islamisation of the EU is accelerating and control needs to be enforced. Simply put good intentions will not save one's national identity." A statement that equates national identity with 'non-Muslim' and calls for "enforcement" is not even thinly-veiled. It is xenophobic and racist.
And it reasserts what right-wing parties in Europe say outright: that Europe is white.
I also have no problem with calling yepp999 a racist. Yes, yepp999 feel aggrieved if you want but your language is intended to be harmful of those whom you perceive as your "others". Case in point: "I also think basic rights is not having other peoples religious services or views pushed onto an unwanting public majority."
Second of all, net dude's and yepp999's comments are clearly intended to defame and to discriminate against Orhan based on age-isms and other malicious claims. (Actually, I also have my doubts that these are two different people. I wouldn't be surprised if they come from the same person). These statements are direct harassment and should be stopped. I agree that they violate forum rules on the site, but beyond that, these are clearly a cowardly personal attacks behind an anonymous handle. I am personally disgusted by how low these two have taken the discussion here.
