Unaffected by the economic woes besetting the masses, the super-rich are going on creating palace-like complexes. One builder says he knows of 20 houses of at least 20,000 square feet in the works.
favorite quote of the article:
"Does anybody need 40,000 square feet?" asks real estate agent Stephen Shapiro of the Westside Estate Agency. "No, [but] these are our current-day aristocrats and feudal leaders . . . and this is what they want."

My favorite quote:
Real estate agent Drew Fenton said that no one sets out to build a mega-house; it just happens.
Yea, shit like that 'just happens' all the time to me too!
These are WAY more than mere McMansions.
there is nothing like feudal comfort in a feudal zone.
Yeah, these can't really be classified as McMansions by anyone who has a lot of experience with them. The property as well as the building are too large to be considered Mc, and whatever 'design' involved in these is too custom as well.
These are just mansions, however similarly banal and tasteless they may seem when compared to McMansions.
yeah, you guys are right, they are not mcmansions. i misused the term.
whatever guys, they are still feudal...
Great photo- pretty well sums it up.
ha ha ha ha, exactly.
i was trying to think of the fast food equivalent to these mansions, but i couldn't think of one.
