why doesnt this lack of responsibility seem to bother anyone? I know its usualy not the architect's fault, that leaks are most often caused by bad craft, but somewhere along the line the notion of "delicate genius" is being implied as someone who is above such things as functionality and that is jsut degrading the architect to the level of conceptualist - for which no license would then be waranted. Anyone can be a "conceptualist". Is the architecture then the concept or thing keeping you dry?
The owners listen to contractors when making design decisions. Routinely. "Do it this way, it will be cheaper." or "I can re-build it according to the drawings, but it will cost ya. A lot."
Owners and builders often take liberties with architectural drawings that lead to problems. They decide on a change without consulting the architect. Sure, architects are famous for the un-buildable detail, but no more so than contractors are for scratching their asses.
If you think the old arogant attituce towerds nature, materials , what is even possible within today's technikes those who build the structure and what is even posible , can continue in architecture, then you are not progressive but backstriving.
