In any of six designs under consideration, the main tower would soar three or four times higher than this city’s most famous landmarks, an alteration of the landscape that has drawn heated protests from the director of the Hermitage Museum and the head of the local architects’ union.
But Gazprom, Russia’s state-controlled energy company, is determined to press ahead and is soon to announce the winner of an international design competition. As an arm of the Kremlin, opponents say, Gazprom usually gets its way. NYT | previously 1 | 2 | 3 | discuss

Skyscraper row hits city of tsars l BBC
It would be great to hear what the architects think of their schemes, where are these coming from? Am I old fashioned if I ask where these pretty faces relate to the project of Gazprom or St Petersberg or anything? I wonder why that isn't covered in the NY Times article in favor of a more familiar historic preservation debate. If people (architects) are bemoaning the lack of original or subversive or substantive thinking in architecture these days... would the inclusion of the architects' goals for these schemes be a place to start?
Well this is not Soviet it is Archinect and I am sure an artists words will not be tampered with , deleted or that the staff in any way will dictate the agenda.
Guess we all agrea that it is covards and somthing we thought to happen in the old Soviet union, today it happen at architect fora's so don't expect a real answer.
