At a time when major, wealthy museum donors like Eli Broad and Leonard Lauder call all the shots, Thomas Krens may well be the one stoic, powerful museum director left standing and nothing is in between him and his dream buildings now that Peter Lewis cried uncle. The NYTimes writes: "usually the richest man wins"... making Lewis' departure all the more surprising.
