The idea of the project was to emphasize, thought the qualities of a roof, the most important place in the school, the Central Yard. However, there was another place to stand out, The Back Entrance. After the construction of the new Library, a Natural Atrium took the center stage and this Door, designed as a service exit, became the second face of the building despite the lack of an Institutional Image, such as the one of the Main Entrance. So, two places demanded two roofs.
Back on the design itself, the roof should be as a large treetop, providing shade but letting the breeze and the sun to be there too, which remembers you that you´re still outside, in the nature. That´s why the metal roofs, supported by few but wide concrete pillars, are able to cover most of the surfaces, providing a heterogeneous shade thanks’ to the disposition of the metal nerves which let the sun cross on particular situations and guide but not stop the rain and the wind.
