Hints:
The architects are dutch but based in belgium, as is the building.
In the past one of the partners has designed a conversion of a water tower to a house.
The two architects amalgamated their practices in the last 2-3 years
Very good - I agree with you. I really like Crepain Binst. The site is only in Nederlands so it is a but hard to decipher whats going on, but they have some very nice houses.
i think i know who this is, but can't search or confirm right now...but thanks for posting crepain binst's webpage...good firm to keep an eye out for...great projects in there...i love this thread...
when you go to sao paulo and see the work of the "paulista" brutalists, you will notice that the concrete (much like the city) takes a harsh beating from the environment, and it's taken as character....souto de moura's house is looking pretty rough nowadays...
it's a really nice project, I've had that house bookmarked since I first saw it almost a year ago. I would definitely recommend taking a look at their site, they have some amazing work.
I'll post a building in about an hour when I get home.
more brutalism. This might be an easy one for some, but if no one gets it by tomorrow I'll post an exterior shot. Sorry for the quality of the first one, it was somewhat dark in there.
lletdownl...that 3rd. image...not bad for a driveway, right?! although i always thought it was anticlimatic, to see those garage doors after such a powerful transition space...
phuyaka...you were fast...i am curious about your brutalist church, but have no idea, and can't search for it now...i am eager for more clues though...
It was designed by two people, one notable for designing a good potion of the university in a neighboring city as well as several other churches. It was the first reinforced concrete church built in the country, completed in 1927
damnit i knew holz would get it. brownie bonus points if you know who worked with Moser on it...
It's a really impressive space inside, the lack of color from the concrete makes the light pouring though the stain-glass really overwhelming (you can sort of see from the second picture above. It really commands a presence from the exterior as well:
yes, sorry, i should have been more specific. eliel did first christian in columbus too. this one's awesome. didn't see it (or know about it) when i lived in mpls. : (
Hints:: In the last ten years, the city it is in has had a new opera built. I have seen pictures with both the opera and the building in question, although they were a bit panoramic.
Name that Architect and Building!!!
Sorry everybody,
I had a day off yesterday.

I dont know this one... Brazlian?
The concrete is quite da Rocha, but the glass really isn't. Matthia Klotz, perhaps?
s
looks rather aged for klotz.
Perhaps an early house by Souto de Moura?
diabase, your early comment was on the right track - it is in brazil...
i don't think it's isay weinfeld, but this website shows some amazing work...
i thought it was a house by MMBB...quite similar..but it wasn't it...

angelo bucci, SPBR arquitetos...House in Ribeirao Preto;
ahhhh, i love brutalism =)
Wow,
Here is the website - with some very sexy houses. The most surprising thing to me is that the house was built in 2001....
i would've sworn it was built in the 60's.
Yeah me too,
Nice finds p2an and simples.
Off you go

Phenomenal - I have had a great morning salivating over Brazilian brutalism... such great stuff.
Robert Konieczny (KWK promes) - Aatrial House, Opole, Poland
oh my, that 3rd image is amazing... what a beautiful thing
What is that space for - washing the car?

auguste perret?
good guess a-f, but a little less notable.
It was designed by two people, one notable for designing a good potion of the university in a neighboring city as well as several other churches. It was the first reinforced concrete church built in the country, completed in 1927
karl moser, st antonius church, basel

off to holz
robert curjel?
another of my favorite churches:
that's a really good knock-off of saarinen's first christian church in columbus in. so i'm guessing it's saarinen himself.
Holz it was with Gustav Doppler, haven't heard of him aside from that project.
I'm with sw.. looks like a saarinen
It is a Saarinen, but an Eliel, not an Eero. Though to be fair, Jr made an addition to it in 1962.
It is Christ Church Lutheran in Minneapolis from 1949.
yes, sorry, i should have been more specific. eliel did first christian in columbus too. this one's awesome. didn't see it (or know about it) when i lived in mpls. : (
yeah, you're up kungapa. it's a pretty fabulous space
I haven't seen it - I would of course like to though.
I'll give you an interior shot of this one, an exterior shot would probably give too much away.
are those diego rivera's murals?!
Is this in NY?
Not in NY and not Diego Rivera.
Try in a little more obscure location.
Hints:: In the last ten years, the city it is in has had a new opera built. I have seen pictures with both the opera and the building in question, although they were a bit panoramic.
that feels mediteranean...
Some more shots. I was trying to find some good images of the detailing, which is really nice. The building was officially inaugurated in 1950.
Another one of the mural in the first pic:
FOUND IT!
Oslo City Hall
Arnstein Arneberg and Magnus Poulsson
the exterior shots really are impressive... i was totally fooled by this one though... i would have never guess it was in oslo
unfortunately i have to crank some stuff out before the end of the day, someone post for me and ill take my turn on monday
