one minor bug with the "skip to last post" button... i just hit it for this thread and it took me to a blank 5th page... i'm guessing that when i post this comment, it will be the first post of the 5th page...

edit: yep!

Is the image gallery gone, or is it one of the future roll-outs?

Apr 18, 11 11:25 am  ·

Frit - we've removed the image gallery because it is redundant now. Galleries are now attached to projects that people or firms post to their portfolios (example), or attached to news/feature articles (example). People can also post images of their current work in the Work Updates section. Maybe later we'll bring back an image gallery that consolidates images from across the website.

Are the images that were previously located in the gallery still here somewhere?

Apr 18, 11 12:58 pm  ·

All of the old gallery images are safely stored, but they're not currently on the new site.

This really is a non-issue but I'm wondering if there's anyway to do a preloader?

When I use FireBug to monitor the front page when files are loaded, a lot of things get loaded up very quickly-- like all of the javascript files, CSS and html. However, once the script and text based portion loads... all of the image files try to load all at once. We're talking milliseconds of delay. But the page doesn't full render until all of the images are loaded at once. The images seem to take between 0.08 seconds to a full 4 seconds to load.

Overall, the speed seems to be much, much better. I guess my comment is this-- is there a way to successively load each image one after the other? I'm assuming this would be less harsh on mobile devices and it would look a little more slick on the front page if each article box popped up and loaded independently rather than an enormous wall of content?

I know this is a bit of an extreme suggestion and probably overstepping some bounds. I'm pretty sure this is just how firefox loads pages though.

P.S. I sent you an e-mail, Mr. P. Not sure if you got it but figured I'd casually, yet passive-agressively- mention it.

Also, I'm not sure what Archinect has done but Archinect's news stories are getting prominent features on Google News.

That really makes me think twice about using hilarious-yet-inappropriate puns as headlines in news article postings. A good example being the article on expansion of New York City firms I posted. It maybe conceived as being slightly phallic in hindsight.

J. James - sorry, we've actually been making some final tweaks to the bookmarklet. It isn't totally ready for prime time yet.

BTW: we've updated the comment/post text areas. It should be bug free now, and much improved overall.

Oh, and it works on iPhone/iPod/iPad now.

when i'm flipping through images on a news article (for example), the entire page reloads.  is it possible to have just the images flip, leaving the rest of the content in place?  i realize there may be an underlying reason for it being the way it is...but it's worth asking.

jump to last comment is great...but I'm REALLY loving the way FIRMS and more specifically PROJECTS get pulled onto the homepage.  It's like a curated feed reader, making my visits more content-rich, and less surf-y...

j.james, archinect news and features have been getting prominent coverage in google for many years. credibility has been building up from the start, and, it has not always depended on  appropriateness.;.))

Oh, I was wondering if anything different was done along the lines of RSS feeds or Google Analytics. It's just surprising to get a Google News alert for an article published on Archinect 15 minutes after it's been submitted.

what happened to the posting window? Now it's powered by MS Word for Win ME? It comes with its own useless context meny (cut, copy paste), and now my OS will not do spellcheck inside this box anymore.

When you click post comment the formatting codes are briefly shown to you.

Since we are travelling in time, do I need Netscape Communicator for maximum compaitability? :)

Rusty - can you post a screenshot? What OS/browser are you using? We've thoroughly tested the new text editor in Mac/Windows Firefox, Chrome, Safari and IE9.

i also noticed that the formatting code shows briefly when you submit a comment.  not exactly a problem from my point of view, but probably not intentional either...

and ya, firefox spellcheck doesn't work in the comment box anymore.

J. James - Google has probably be re-indexing the site as all of the page URL's have been re-mapped. I've also noticed a lot of old articles getting picked up by Google News lately. Our news, in general, however, is usually picked up by Google News within an hour.

Paul, it works on the iPad now, but you have to manually insert paragraph breaks, and the iPad isn't up to editing HTML just yet.

still, a vast improvement.

Agreed with Purpurina, terrific addition.  I also like rollover thread previews, but I'm guessing that won't fit with the 'nect-thetic.

Postings and Data - are we going to see the number of posts and thread starts under the names?  That was a great feature and easily distinguished between the one post guys, stirring up trouble or posting something pointless, and those that care about this community.

Not to mention it was just fun to keep count!  :-)

i agree with trace... i know post and thread start counts can be devisive, but it's really hard to tell who is/has been a regular and who isn't... especially with all the name changes.  and also what trace says about being trouble starters.. there's a certain amount of credibility that comes along with a larger number of posts.. and a lack thereof to people with only one or two.

i am having some issues with the text box.  first, i can't see my cursor, and if i make a mistake and want to delete something from the middle of a sentence, i can't.  i also can't make paragraph breaks no matter how many times i hit enter. i just hit enter 5 times before this sentence, and it shows up in the window as immediately after the previous sentence.  sorry for this clumsy post, but i've been avoiding posting for a few days due to this funky issue.  using firefox on windows

AP. I've had the text box issue once. It seems to happen when you copy and paste internet content. I've been writing my articles in notepad and then transferring them over to the input section because it's easier and I've lost one posting when I was forced to refresh the page. Firebug pointed out two javascript errors when it occurred but I didn't think much of it at the time as I just thought it was a fluke as it hasn't happened again.

I also get an issue where formatting cannot be over written. It seems to happen the most frequently with hyperlinks and italics that won't revert back to normal text.

Apr 22, 11 10:32 pm  ·
 ·

AP - send me an email if you notice any pattern with this problem. We'd like to resolve it if it's a bug.

J. James - have you noticed problems recently? We've made a bunch of changes recently that should have resolved those problems.
