Watershed has been engaged as lead landscape consultant to perform a review of Tishman Speyer’s entire ‘The Springs’ mixed-use development in New Jiang Wan Town, Shanghai. Watershed worked with the client’s design team and other consultant designers in an effort to establish a holistic conceptual driver in the form of guidelines for all future development on the site. Integral to this is the design and coordination of the landmark plaza, Minfu Square, which will be a visual centerpiece to the whole project.
Working within the client’s vision of a design that reinforces the branding of the development, Watershed has delivered a design that is informal and naturalistic, yet appropriate in an urban context which focuses on re-establishing connections to nature without hindering commercial business. The landscape planning has also found a method to provide subtle visual cues to historical Shanghai through an innovative use of paving patterns in the footpaths.
