Concordia International School has a proud history of working within both the international and local community of Shanghai and in recent years have completed extensive building upgrade program for its growing community.

Watershed was engaged by the school as lead consultant for the redesign of the International School’s Jinqiao campus. The driving concept for the landscape was to provide a canvas which can be used as a backdrop for future experimentation with materiality and creativity, in keeping with the school’s curriculum which is constantly evolving and never static. By creating a space that had multiple uses and can be added to in future years the potential of young minds to expand is not restricted.

In full consultation with the entire school community, a design was developed which incorporates many innovative elements including pedestrian/vehicle separation features, rammed earth walls, recycled tire play surfaces, and play equipment selected to be appropriate for different age groups. The new design offers a naturalistic setting of undulating, planted play hills and commissioned artworks reflecting the school’s values.
