This bar serves some of the most innovative cocktails in the city, but the owners challenged us to create an approachable, neighborhood-bar feel. Our design sessions with the client led to the name of the bar: they wanted a sustainable project approach that worked with the givens of the space as much as possible – celebrating the ‘Existing Conditions’ while also transforming them.
The space previously housed a sports bar with eleven televisions and dozens of varying wood finishes and lighting types. We stripped away the monitors, refinished and replaced wood elements to unify them, and replaced and relamped light fixtures – using existing power connections wherever possible. We successfully filed a Public Assembly application for 113 occupants with the NYC Department of Buildings.
