Verona Carpenter Architects designed the ground floor façade improvements for 375 Hudson Street office tower, part of Hudson Square Properties’ extensive streetscape upgrades for this growing neighborhood. VCA proposed an outdoor public gallery: 2,100 square feet of site-specific artwork on forty window panels, celebrating local and emerging talent. The first installation was completed in November 2020 and features a dynamic mural by Brooklyn-based artists Geraluz and Werc.
VCA’s design also included removal of existing over-scaled awnings, which acted to conceal rather than highlight the retail spaces, and refinishing of the storefront.
The artwork installation, printed on perforated vinyl, appears opaque from the exterior but is transparent to view from the interior, acting as a solar shade to replace the shielding effect of the removed awnings.
