Our design for this two-story flagship transformed a difficult irregularly shaped space into a retail and customization hub for this iconic sneaker brand. We created a large new circular opening between the floors, with a sinuous blackened steel and wood stair that serves as a focal point and helps resolve the competing geometries of the existing space while inviting patrons to explore upstairs.
We also sought to restore some of the integrity of the original building, which had been almost entirely obscured in a series of prior renovations. We exposed the board form concrete, removed the escalator, and restored the double-height storefront typical of San Francisco’s Market Street.
