On November 25, 2008 the Jersey City Municipal Council determined the Greater Journal Square Study Area to be an "area in need of rehabilitation.  Journal Square Associates LLC (Journal) is inviting five architectural firms to participate in a design competition for a 2,000,000 sf development at Journal Square in Jersey City. It is Journal’s intention to develop a mixed use property that will reinvigorate the area of Jersey City with a design that is programmatically sound, architecturally distinct, environmentally responsible, and efficient.
      The site is composed of approximately 2 acres within an irregular plot and is located at Journal Square, a transportation hub in Jersey City, New Jersey, 15 minutes away from Manhattan via PATH.
      The design task requests the provision of two preliminary architectural concepts for building components.  Scheme A: all residential. Scheme B: a mix of residential and office. The site is zoned with an FAR of 25. There are no height restrictions for the development.
