The dean of a Michigan architectural school has been tapped to head the financially struggling Boston Architectural College, after a year-long search that started with the dismissal of longtime BAC president Theodore Landsmark.

Merging the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Architecture with another college is a disaster waiting to happen, a handful of architects said Friday.

They were attending the NU Board of Regents meeting to protest plans to merge the architecture program with the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts. Kansas University has hired a new dean for the School of Architecture, Design and Planning.

Mahesh Daas, professor and chairman of the Department of Architecture at Ball State University, will start the job June 15, KU announced Monday. Daas will succeed Dean John Gaunt, who has led the school more than 20 years.
