As we mentioned earlier today, BIG was revealed as one of three finalists — along with OMA and Buro-OS — for the new Axel Springer Media Campus in Berlin. The new Axel Springer headquarters will be located at one of the last remaining plots of the historic former site of the Berlin Wall. All winning entries will be publicly displayed at the German Architecture Centre (DAZ) in Berlin from Dec. 17 - Dec. 22. — bustler.net

In the international competition for the new Berlin Media Campus of German publishing house Axel Springer, the jury managed to agree upon their three favorite entries — but not quite yet in which order. Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), OMA (Rem Koolhaas) and Buro Ole Scheeren were selected as winners from a group of five finalists (including SANAA and Kuehn Malvezzi) that were invited to present their proposals to the jury on December 12. The competition brief had deliberately not placed tight restrictions on the submitted designs — something that the three winners will now have to finalize in their proposals before the jury selects the overall winner. In the competiton seeking proposals to replace Bertrand Goldberg’s iconic Prentice Woman’s Hospital in Chicago, Northwestern University has selected Perkins+Will as the winning firm.
P+W prevailed over two other shortlisted teams — Goettsch Partners/Ballinger and Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture/Payette — and will get to design the new 600,000 square foot Biomedical Research Building for the Feinberg School of Medicine on Northwestern University’s downtown Chicago campus.

Young Architects Competitions recently announced the winning projects for Post-Quake Visions. The international ideas competition aimed to encourage research and new ideas for the reconstruction of the Italian City of Crevalcore, which was struck by a May 2012 earthquake that destroyed hundreds of ancient buildings.

The Turkish Çanakkale Antenna Tower International Competition has announced eight firms that passed the pre-selection hurdle and can now proceed to the second stage for design development. It's a three-way tie for the competition to develop the urban conceptual design for the Delta and Porto Baros area in Rijeka, Croatia. UNStudio has surely been on a roll in completing projects for the past few weeks. Ben van Berkel and co. recently finished the Hanjie Wanda Square at the Wuhan Central Culture Centre in Wuhan, China.
UNStudio's overall design for the facade and interior of the new luxury shopping plaza won a 2011 international competition. Using sophisticated yet simple materials, the plaza has sleek colors and dynamic patterns that are also a suitable match for its luxury retail features.

Since our last update on this competition, Theis and Khan was recently selected to design RIBA's new administration center at 76 Portland Place, London, W1. Theis and Khan has won previous RIBA awards and was shortlisted in the RIBA Stirling Prize and Manser Medal in 2011. — bustler.net
