The ultramodern Villa Kogelhof in Kamperland, the Netherlands has just been awarded one of the prestigious Dutch ARC13 Architecture Prize. The building's designers, Amsterdam-based Paul de Ruiter Architects, were honored with the prize — alongside three other award winners — at a festive award ceremony in Rotterdam. — bustler.net

For anyone returning from the Thanksgiving holiday, perhaps a fitness-inspired project could help ward off a little of that holiday indulgence. MARS Architects recently won the competition to design the headquarters for leading sports activity brand Walltopia in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Chosen out of 369 entries from 63 countries by the Foster + Partners-led jury, MARS' proposal is an 8,800 sq.m hybrid structure whose program is cleverly "folded" by an interweaving climbing atrium.

The Battery Conservancy is one step closer to finding the winning outdoor chair design of their Draw Up A Chair competition for The Battery park in New York City.
The competition began with 679 submissions in July 2012. Then the jury selected the Top 50 designs, which were exhibited for the public to see and use over the past six months.

The Great Indoors 2013 recently announced the winners for this year's competition. The 2013 theme focused on The Nature of Things — in regards to the increasing global trend of incorporating repurpose, sustainability, and reconnecting with natural elements in interior design.
Out of 271 entries from 39 countries, the jury selected 20 nominees, four in each of the following categories: Serve & Facilitate, Relax & Consume, Show & Sell, and Concentrate & Collaborate.

UNStudio was recently chosen to design the Baumkirchen Mitte, an office and residential complex in Munich, Germany. Re-Thinking the Future's International Architecture Thesis Award 2013 recently concluded with the announcement of this year's winners. The exclusive international design competition recognizes the best in student thesis projects.
Starting with 525 registrations, 265 entries were shortlisted for the first round of screening. The competition pool was then narrowed down to 80 submissions that advanced to the next level of grading.

GO Design, a London-based studio founded by architect Go Sugimoto, sent us their proposal for the Billy Taylor Challenge that they recently won.
The competition challenged participants to design a renovation plan for the former house of Billy Taylor, an influential mentor figure for the local youth community in Providence, Rhode Island. After his passing in 1987 at the age of 27, his house was abandoned until it was donated to the Billy Taylor Project.

Results for the Remember the Triangle Fire Memorial design competition have been announced. The Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition hosted the competition to find the design for a permanent memorial at the site of the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire in Greenwich Village, New York.
The fire occurred on March 25, 1911 in the Asch Building (now New York University's Brown Building) and killed 146 workers, many who were young immigrant women.

"Ribbon of Memory" by Vienna-based team CSA is currently being built into a memorial dedicated to Polish World War II resistance fighters in Krakow, Poland. CSA's proposal was the winning entry for the international competition held in June 2013 by the World Association of Polish AK veterans.
The memorial celebrated its groundbreaking on Sept. 27, and completion is expected in 2014.

Seven projects have been shortlisted for the World Design Impact Prize 2013-2014. The nominated projects were unveiled during the 28th General Assembly of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid) in Montreal, Canada from Nov. 18-19.
The World Design Impact Prize raises awareness to the value of industrial design to provide solutions that address challenging global issues and social well-being.

The results are in for the Workplace of the Future Design Competition, presented by Metropolis and Business Interiors by Staples. The design competition questions the blurred definition of the workplace and the present-day possibility that work can be done just about anywhere now, with wireless and cloud technology readily available. A team consisting of Mecanoo, Michael van Gessel, DELVA Landscape Architects and Jojko Nawrocki Architekci has been selected to design the new Garden of the 21st Century with integrated exhibition pavilion at the Royal Łazienki Museum in Warsaw, Poland. [...]
Mecanoo will be planning the exhibition pavilion, while Michael van Gessel and DELVA Landscape Architects are in charge of the garden design.

BIG is having a good week, now with another competition win to design the Museum of the Human Body in Montpellier, France.
The jury — led by City Mayor Ms Hélène Mandroux — selected BIG out of five international shortlisted teams. BIG collaborated on the design with A+Architecture + Egis + Base + L'Echo + Celsius Environnement + CCVH.

Ann Beha Architects from Boston, MA was selected by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) for a major rehabilitation project of the U.S. Embassy in Athens, Greece.
Walter Gropius and consulting architect Pericles A. Sakellarios designed the iconic embassy from 1959-1961. The building is also listed as a protected architectural landmark.

Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners has just been revealed as the winner of the RIBA and London School of Economics competition to design the LSE's New Global Centre for Social Sciences.
Rogers Stirk Harbour won the £90 million (US$145M) project against finalists OMA (The Netherlands); Grafton Architects (Ireland); Heneghan Peng (Ireland); and Hopkins Architects (UK).
