Sports brand giant Adidas recently selected the COBE-led consortium to design the Adidas "Meet & Eat", a new public conference center at the Adidas Group's World of Sports headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany...The 11,000 m2 building has an open, clean design that complements and embraces its natural surrounding landscape. Aside the hints of Adidas' insignia through the interior, the "striped" pattern of the roof also seems to subtly nod to the brand's triple-stripe mark. — bustler.net
It's a big day of announcements for the AIA! Earlier, Moshe Safdie was revealed as the 2015 AIA Gold Medal recipient. Other big announcements the AIA made today include Ehrlich Architects from Los Angeles as the 2015 AIA Architecture Firm Award winner. Moshe Safdie has been announced as the 2015 recipient of the AIA Gold Medal. Voted on annually, the AIA Gold Medal is regarded as the architecture profession's highest honor given to an individual. The medal honors an individual's exceptional body of work that has made a lasting impact on architectural practice and theory. Safdie will receive the Gold Medal during the 2015 AIA National Convention in Atlanta, Georgia. — bustler.net

If you've been following the Guggenheim Helsinki Design Competition, Stage One attracted an astounding 1,715 entries from 77 countries. However, only six of those entries made it as finalists to proceed to Stage Two, which will begin in the early months of 2015. Out of a super-star list of competitors, a team led by Steven Holl Architects won the competition to design the North Wing -- or the Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum -- of the Mumbai City Museum in India. The museum is one of India's leading cultural institutions and is undergoing a renewal process to establish itself as a cultural destination. The new 275 crore (approx $44.3 million) building will include new galleries and facilities. — bustler.net

The New Zealand Institute of Architects' celebrated another year of top-notch architecture student work with the recent announcement of the 2014 NZIA Graphisoft Student Design Awards winners. Every year, the top four final-year students from each of New Zealand’s three Schools of Architecture (the University of Auckland, Unitec, and Victoria University of Wellington) compete for the top prestigious award. — bustler.net

RIBA announced the 2014 winners of the prestigious President's Medals Student Architecture Awards last night in a ceremony in London. Established in 1836, the RIBA President's Medals are regarded as the world's highest awards in architectural education. The first images of Bjarke Ingels Group's public square [officially titled Malaysia Square] for the £8 billion Battersea Power Station redevelopment in London have been revealed just a few weeks after BIG was appointed as the competition-winning designer. The public square, which will be BIG's first U.K. project, is only a part of the Battersea Power Station's redevelopment plan. — bustler.net

Architect Yoshio Taniguchi and industrial designer Jasper Morrison are the recipients of the second annual Isamu Noguchi Award. The Isamu Noguchi Award recognizes individuals whose work represents the collaborative and multi-disciplinary qualities of landscape architect and artist Isamu Noguchi. Morrison and Taniguchi will be presented with the award by Motohide Yoshikawa (Ambassador of Japan to the U.N.) during a ceremony at The Noguchi Museum's Spring Benefit on May 19, 2015. — bustler.net

The controversial competition has sparked enough debate in the architecture + design community that a counter-competition called The Next Helsinki is currently having their own call for alternative solutions. The Warming Huts competition is back with its 2015 edition! The blind jury sifted through over 100 submissions from around the world for this season's most creative warming huts. The top three winning designs will be constructed at the Red River Mutual Rivertrail in Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada.
