The U.S. Pavilion at the 13th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, organized by the Institute for Urban Design on behalf of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, will be devoted to the theme Spontaneous Interventions: Design Actions for the Common Good. Amsterdam's UNStudio has just realized its latest project, the Center for Virtual Engineering (ZVE) [...] in Stuttgart, Germany. The official opening took place this week with an opening ceremony during which the German Sustainable Building Council (DNGB) awarded the building with a Gold certification.
UNStudio worked in collaboration with German firm Asplan Architekten on the architectural services for the Center.

The Singapore Subordinate Courts have announced the winning design for a new courts complex after an open competition process that started in September last year. The design, by London-based Serie Architects in collaboration with local Singaporean firm Multiply Architects, includes two new towers and the renovation of the existing Octagon courts building. Global architecture firms, LAVA (Laboratory for Visionary Architecture) and Designsport, collaborated with local Ethiopian firm JDAW to win the international architecture competition for a national stadium and sports village in Ethiopia's capitol, Addis Ababa. The competition, held by the Federal Sport Commission, Ethiopia, called for a new FIFA and Olympic-standard 60,000 seat stadium to host major soccer and athletic events. — bustler.net

Big names of the international architectural and design community recently gathered at Toronto's Thompson Hotel as AZURE Magazine revealed the winners of its second annual AZ Awards, the only international, multi-disciplinary design competition in Canada. Copenhagen's Henning Larsen Architects has won the competition for developing a 150,000 m2 (1.6M sq ft) area in the second-largest city in the Faroe Islands, Klaksvík. The area will comprise a cultural house, a museum, residences, offices and shops. [...]
On the basis of the winning proposal, the Municipality of Klaksvík will prepare a new district plan for the development of the city. The plan is expected to be ready during 2012.

In the international Zhuhai Shizimen Bridge Competition, the entry 'Infinity Loop Bridge' by 10 DESIGN and Buro Happold has won the first prize. The proposal "Papilio" by Swedish architect duo Selime Osman and Ilyas Awadh has taken the first prize of EUR 10,000 (USD 12,770) in the Bullhorn - Cembrit Design Competition. The winning entry transmorphs fiber cement in a very poetic way into a swarm of light flying butterflies. London/Paris-based practice Matteo Cainer Architects Ltd has sent us its competition entry for the new Swiss embassy building in Yaoundé, the capital city of Cameroon, West Africa.
