Planning and Design for Healthcare Facilities in Canada: Towards Healthy Aging-in-Place through Inclusive and Accessible Design in Multicultural Communities in Canada

Speaker – Dr. Henry Tsang Athabasca University (Canada), Faculty of Science & Technology, Centre for Architecture, Associate Professor Henry Tsang Architect, Principal

A graduate of the University of Tokyo’s Nagasawa Yasushi Lab in Healthcare Facility Planning, Dr. Henry Tsang is an associate professor at Athabasca University and will present about healthcare architecture in Canada. His research focuses on topics related to IDEA (inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility), healthcare architecture, and health & well-being in the built environment, in particular impacts on aging populations and persons with disabilities. In addition, Tsang is also the principal architect of the firm HENRY TSANG ARCHITECT and a specially appointed advisor to the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada on Long-Term Care design. Through his various roles, Tsang is involved in the development of policies, standards and programs for healthy and accessible environments, as well as in the design of award-winning community-centric projects.
