Ned Dodington, founder of AnimalArchitecture.org, today announced the winners of the 2012 Animal Architecture Awards. Henning Larsen Architects and a group consisting of turnkey contractor Züblin, landscape architect SLA and consulting engineers Henrik Larsen and Jørgen Nielsen have won the competition for a new Town Hall and Health Center in Egedal, Denmark. Three winning projects were announced in the Future Cities, Planning for the 90 per cent competition: ateliermob (Portugal), Municipal Housing Secretariat of São Paulo (Brazil), and Interazioni Urbane (Italy). The projects are part of the exhibition Future Cities: Planning for the 90 per cent in Venice during the 13th Architecture Biennale. Proposals to reinvigorate the city centre of Aberdeen, Scotland by High Line architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro have been rejected by City Councillors. [...] The Full Council voted 22-20 - with one abstention - to reject the scheme but agreed to retain proposals to refurbish Aberdeen Art Gallery, redevelop the site of the City Council’s former St Nicholas House headquarters and the Upper Denburn area, and to invest in ‘City Circle’ plans to make the city better connected for pedestrians. — World Architecture News

We have received plenty of photos of the recently completed Wuxi Grand Theatre in Wuxi, China. Terreform ONE has announced twenty finalists of its open international design competition, ONE PRIZE 2012: FROM BLIGHT TO MIGHT. The competition drew 115 teams and 655 team members from more than 20 countries and five continents. Many questioned the American Dream and offered new 21st century possibilities.
