Following last week’s look at an opening for a Landscape Designer at the Better Block Foundation, we are using this week’s edition of our Job Highlights series to explore an open role on Archinect Jobs for a Senior Architect at Zuru Group.
The role, based in El Segundo, CA, calls for an individual to sit at the forefront of Zuru Tech’s “ambitious project to craft 20-30 exceptional homes within the next 18-24 months.” Among the responsibilities will be leading residential design concepts, collaborating with a wider design team, and mentoring junior architects. Among the skills and qualifications desired for the role are a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture alongside 8-10 years of residential design experience.
Why the role interests us
The open role at Zuru Tech offers us the opportunity to explore a company seeking to disrupt the traditional process of residential design and construction. The company’s approach centers on a client-facing BIM software named Dreamcatcher, which allows users to “design, simulate, purchase and build any type of building.”
The software’s configurator allows clients to select templates for each building component and shape an architecture design. Dreamcatcher will then automatically convert the design into a structural simulation model and “perform all calculations needed to validate your layout, for the smoothest process possible.” Dreamcatcher’s algorithm also resolves MEP systems in response to where users place fixtures such as lights and plumbing.
With the design completed, users can order the customized building to be manufactured and shaped to the site. Production takes place within ZURU’s fully automated production facility before being shipped to the site as a kit for final assembly.
“For all of our key product areas, we believe in vertical integration of all manufacturing,” the company notes. “This allows us to completely control the production process leading to a higher quality final product with the capability of creating more innovative designs.”
