Syracuse University School of Architecture (SoA) shares its Spring 2022 lecture series and event programming. Continuing with Archinect's Get Lectured Series, our aim is to highlight upcoming lectures from architecture schools as well as their graphic design themes for the Spring.
Starting in January the school announced their mini-lecture series, Design and the Biodiverse. "Organized by Associate Dean Julia Czerniak, focusing on the intersection of design with issues of biodiversity, will take place throughout the spring." Invited lecturers include Richard Weller (University of Pennsylvania) who spoke on January 28, Kristina Hill (University of California, Berkeley) who spoke on Feb 10, Nina-Marie Lister (PLANDFORM) who will speak on March 3, Erin Moore (University of Oregon) who will speak on, Gena Wirth (SCAPE) who will speak on, and Joyce Hwang (University of Buffalo) who will speak on April 7.
In February, the school welcomed Albert Williamson-Taylor of AKT II for their L.C. Dillenback Lecture. The school's NOMAS chapter celebrated Black architects, designers, and students by holding an alumni mixer, panel discussion, as well as an exciting lecture from Nathan Williams of and Scott Ruff. In April, Syracuse SoA will hold its Drawing Workshop Symposium on April 4. The Symposium includes lectures from Iman Fayyad, Perry Kulper, Stephanie Lin, and Nathan Williams. Elizabeth Lacouture will present a lecture on April 7 and Cole Roskam will give a lecture on April 14. The school also welcomes a lecture from Awel Al Awar and Anna Tsing on March 24.
The school's prominent Harry Der Boghosian Fellowship will conduct its online symposium, Debris, Constellations, and Counter-Histories, on April 8. "Organized as a live, roundtable discussion, the symposium convenes architects, artists, historians, anthropologists, and preservationists whose work deconstructs “official” historical narratives and reconstructs counter-histories by salvaging, analyzing, archiving, and constellating historical detritus that is at once overlooked and disregarded to retell one possible permutation of history among infinite potential assemblages and meanings." Moderated by Leen Katrib, the school’s sixth Boghosian Fellow and Dean of Syracuse SoA Michael Speaks guests include: Azra Akšamija, Gastón Gordillo, Sylvia Lavin, Jorge Otero-Pailos, and Elka Krajewska and Matthew Wagstaffe of Salvage Art Institute (SAI).
The school also announced the inaugural launch of the Patrick Ahearn Workshops which began in February. This series of short courses is meant to "augment and enhance the school’s academic course offerings." Accompanying each workshop course is a lecture from prominent architects and designers. On February 10 the school welcomed Marlon Blackwell. On March 3 Gary Bates founder of Spacegroup & Makemake Agency and Albert Williamson-Taylor of AKT II will present followed by a lecture from Yanel de Angel Salas and Carolyn Cooney of Perkins&Will on March 25.
