Few people know one of New York's most spectacular interiors, just as sumptuous as the New York Public Library and just as dazzling as the Chrysler Building. It's the 1899 Gould Memorial Library, at New York University's old uptown campus, on 180th Street between Sedgwick and University Avenues -- now Bronx Community College. The grand, domed reading room, designed by Stanford White, has long been idle, but now Bronx Community College is making progress in returning it to use. via
i agree...i'm attracted to the form, composition and materiality of the exterior. some of the interior spaces seem great too, although not because of the physical detailing.
Damn, I was just at Clowe's for a free jazz concert, sorry I missed you posting it!
It's definitely a Relentless Brutal Concrete Bunker. Interior is more of the same. I love it in a RBCB way, and the actual theater space is dramatically high and overpowering, but it looks prettier in that top picture than I ave ever seen it in real life.
that is a colourful building, without being jarring. My guess based on that would be either Campo Baeza or Studio Barozzi Veiga, my heart is leading towards the former
Hey guys, long-time lurker, one of my favorite threads here on archinect. So this is one of my favorites, but what are the rules here, we can only guess if we have to research it?
The key to La Congiunta can be obtained in the “Osteria Giornico” in the high street of the village.
6745 Giornico/Tessin, T + 41 91 864 22 15
Opening Hours: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Closed Wednesdays.
giornico is situated in a valley, there is a major road, rail and river passing through the city, the tracks run adjacent to the museum.
the fun way to go is to take the e35 from luzern via san gottardo pass. although the logical route is to stop over between chur/paspels/vals and lugano/bellinzona
Name that Architect and Building!!!
i know... Covas Hunkeler Wyss Architekten, Einfamilienhaus WII, Jegenstorf.
i have a presentation at noon i need to prepare for... anyone else? or is it just me and holz... if so i can post another after lunch.
i am still lurking...just ran out of semi-obscure brazilian stuff to post 14 pages back! i wished more archinecter's would post here...
i know... it goes in waves. right now we're in a lull.
i'll bite. i know p2an knows this one. and bryan boyer. but anyway...
breuer at nyu
i had bronx community college, but maybe they're in the same place...
yep, breuer, 1964.
begrisch hall
, now part of bronx community college.
awww, holz just didn't wake up early enough!
that's a really interesting form, i'm just not familiar as to how it relates to the base. or maybe the juxtaposition w/ stone wall just seems off...
originally this was an nyu campus:

next:
and in case those aren't legible:
eh, this is the house i really wanted to post, by the same architect (and maybe way too easy):
well that's stan allen
stan allen?
sorry, wasn't questioning phuyaka, just my own answer. yes, i think it's stan allen, too.
the top one, LB house, the bottom one, sagaponac house
ha by one minute. post another SW? i'm still too swamped to image search at the moment
i really like the sagaponac house.
i'm not feeling the storefront system in the sagaponic. it's not refined enough.

ok, try...
wish i could find some interiors cuz this place is cool.
leave it to me to kill the momentum again.
i've got another if we need it.
is it a theater? where is it located?
a theater, yes, not far from liberty bell's house.
i hope you can dig up some interior shots, steve, cuz the exterior's not doing it for me!
steven needs to get outta dodge!
i just like showcasing midwest work as much as possible, holz. this european stuff is beautiful, but more work close to home would be good, too.
maybe this particular project has to be experienced to be appreciated. i've been to shows there and it's sublime. i love it.
so. it's clowes hall, butler university, evans woollen (now woollen, molzan and partners), 1963-64
i'll try again.
how 'bout this?:

is that vicente guallart?

Is that the Pantone factory?
no guallart. (but i went to see what his stuff looked like and that bears more exploration.)
hahahahahahahahahahahaha!
one clue is in that last picture.
another: it's in spain.
that is a colourful building, without being jarring. My guess based on that would be either Campo Baeza or Studio Barozzi Veiga, my heart is leading towards the former
campo?!? i think if it was, it'd be more monumental.
and it's not white enough!
clue 3: this was a drastic (extreme, even) renovation of an existing bldg.
reminds me a lot of mansilla+tunon but i haven't looked through their site yet
it's the national statistical institute (instituto nacional de estadística),
madrid,
by cesar ruiz-larrea and antonio gomez.
who wants to be up?
This is a sculpture gallery. It's quite an unsettling space, I think.
UNSETTLING? it's friggin amazing.
especially on a misty day...
my favorite part was stepping back outside to the vineyard after spending almost 2 hours inside
...and how you have to get the key to the place from a bar in the village

great post, brilliant architect.
no, you can just say if you know it. a fast game's a good game. holz and phuyaka are just being charitable because they always know.
Well then i guess i'll go then.
This one's a Peter Markli museum in Giornico CH, (La Congiuta I believe?)
Okay give me a minute to find one.
I've never been in person, but it does strike me as unsettling. There's definitely something of the prison wing or abbatoir about it.
Hopefully not too obvious for you guys but I have a feeling you're all way out of my league at this anyway.
Nice (interesting) video (!). Sound (acoustic environment) is an important part of architecture. . .
Did I hear a train go by ? Is the photographer chewing bubble gum ?
The light in there is grand.
