PRESENTATION

In the past year, the screen has spectacularly converged our view to the world. The increased interaction through an artificial lens has prompted our behaviour and routines between work and non-work. The precarity generated through Covid-19 is offering exciting opportunities to challenge the premise of social interactions and norms of representation and communication. In the realm of design education, and the inhabitation of real and virtual space, the presentation is a fundamental tool of production.

The exchange of ideas through means of presentations is an important part of INDA. The presentation is an instance during which ideas and arguments of design, research, and experimentation are manifested. The presentation is an opportunity to campaign and become an activist of your own convictions. This project aims for exploration and formation of presentation of work through performance and space.

As eloquently stated in the slogan of INDA Parade 2020; ‘KEEP SCHOOL REAL’ is more than ever an important reflection to validate the role of academic institutions in these turbulent times. A particular interpretation of ‘realness’ or ‘reality’ allows us to see the value of integrating matter and debate in the wider philosophy of the school. The access to the production of thought is most comprehensively structured with the integration of the student with their work - the presentation as such is a performative tool in which body and matter unite.

Somewhere between ‘live’ and ‘pre-recorded’, this Design Build project has challenged space and praxis of real and virtual presentations. A group of ten students developed research, strategic campaigns and constructed a new studio space for the showcasing and presentation of projects developed in different courses of INDA’s curriculum. Following an intensive workshop week with Shumi Bose and Antonio Bernacchi, ideas and objectives were shared for the use of the new INDA premises at the Chulapat 14 building. Over the running of the remaining weeks, students developed the design and construction of the studio space with the help of a contractor from Bangkok.
