This project involved the design and fabrication of workshop benches to be used in the new INDA Lab in Chulapat 14 Building. Students worked in groups to develop ideas about functionality, ergonomics, and modularity, and then worked together to develop the final parallelogram design. This shape enables various modular combinations so that the benches can be used by work groups of different sizes. The units were fabricated by a furniture contractor using a steel frame that could be disassembled to enable transport up and into the building. The frames have a plywood work surface with cutting mat attached, a pegboard panel and shelves for storing tools, as well as an upper level storage area for drawings and models. The signage is color coded to match the INDA logo and castors enable the units to be moved around the workshop as needed.
