The Sylvia & Danny Kaye Playhouse is located within Hunter College’s NYC landmarked North Academic Building - an International-style building designed by Shreve, Lamb & Harmon in 1941. DASNY as agent for CUNY charged elemental to reconfigure the existing building entry to provide barrier-free access while improving the Playhouse’s street presence from East 68th Street. The $750,000 project included a complete redesign of the vestibule interior with new, historically-inspired custom stainless-steel entry doors & pulls, new stainless-steel clad portals, and interior finishes. The expanded entry canopy design includes fully programmable color-changing LED lighting, modern finishes, and enlarged illuminated signage. 

Upon the project’s approval, the Upper East Side’s Preservation Committee noted the design to be “sensitive and deferential to the unique modern look of the Kaye Playhouse entry plaza.”
