This 5-bedroom apartment, located on Riverside Boulevard on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, was originally two separate units combined in an earlier renovation. The layout lacked continuity of its spaces and failed to highlight the unit’s prized feature: uninterrupted Hudson River views from nearly every space. Elemental reorganized the layout by reaffirming critical spatial alignments and creating an entry sequence presenting visitors to the expansive views head-on. Bright, white lacquered wall panels wrap the great room and foyer, while light-stained white oak floors capture and reflect natural light into the apartment’s deeper reaches. At the same time, a cloud ceiling in the main space focuses views outward and allows perimeter lighting.
Designed for a family of four, the children’s wing of the apartment can be acoustically separated with an oversized pocket door; the 5th bedroom, configured as a media room, allows the family to use the space in a variety of ways without interruption.
